What are dental emergencies? Many dental problems cause pain, which can sometimes be excruciating. Unfortunately, the presence of pain doesn’t always mean an emergency. A dental emergency is something that needs to be dealt with straight away to preserve teeth and overall health.
Trauma leading to knocked-out or loose teeth is an emergency to save these teeth. Continuous bleeding that isn’t slowing down is another dental emergency. Finally, if a person has an abscess in their dental cavity, it has to be dealt with as soon as possible for fear of complications.
If you fall and one of your teeth becomes loose, try to keep it in place by biting on a piece of cotton. If the tooth has already been knocked out, place it in a clean container, and soak it in your saliva or milk. Take care not to swallow a loose tooth.
An abscess can be hard to identify. It’ll look like a tense mass full of fluid that’s associated with throbbing or pulsatile pain. Most people with an abscess will also have a fever.
